Israel is home to over 1.2 Million Russian-speaking Israelis (RSI) from the former Soviet Union (FSU) and their families. Even though the Russian-speaking Aliyah has a successful integration story, RSI still face tremendous and unique socio-economic, religious, and cultural challenges. Only 20% of elderly RSI receive a pension, as opposed to 60% of the general elderly population, forcing many to live in poverty. 300,000 RSI can’t get married in Israel because they are not considered Jewish by the Rabbinate and thousands of others are subject to a reassessment of their Jewish status. The history and Jewish heritage of our community isn’t taught in schools and our children are subject to institutional racism and public alienation.
